Dear OLGC Community,

November certainly marks a time for us to all be grateful for the many blessings in our lives.  Some days those are easier to identify than others, but I am extremely grateful for our OLGC community and everything we are able to accomplish together.  One of our favorite traditions is the Thanksgiving Basket Drive to help those in need in our local community.  It is always such an impressive sight to see the outpouring of love and meals we provide.  I look forward to seeing this tradition back in action on November 23rd, so please don't forget to sign up.  The students will also be participating in some version of our annual Turkey Shoot competition in gym class, so stay tuned for more details.  Things may still look a bit different these days but we are definitely moving forward, and it is so exciting to see!

If you have not signed up for your conference with the teacher at this point, we ask that you do so before 3:00 pm tomorrow in order for our teachers to properly prepare for those conferences.  This is a great time to get to know our teachers a bit better, and discuss ways that we can work together to help our students be most successful.

Now that the weather is changing and it is getting colder, please make sure that students are coming to school properly dressed for the weather, as we do like to send them outside for recess as much as possible.  I know it is so tempting to stay in bed a bit longer now too, as it is darker in the morning and those covers feel so warm, but please do try to get to school on time.  We seem to be slipping back a bit later and later in our morning carpool line, and it is so important for children to start the day off on the right foot.  That begins with all students arriving early enough to join us for prayer and pledge in the morning.

Preschool parents please do not forget to join us tomorrow for the Cars and Coffee on the sidewalk in front of DeSales Hall.  Dress warm, the coffee will be hot and the conversation inviting, but the temperatures might be a bit brisk.  Finally, in celebration of the Book Fair and the revamped Multi-Media Center (MMC), students are invited to come to school dressed up as their favorite book character from a book or movie on Monday, October 8.  Student costumes must follow the student handbook.  Students are encouraged to bring the book their character is based on to school.  School spirit coins will be raffled off as prizes throughout the day.  #ReadingCanTakeYouAnywhere

Have a great rest of the week, and a relaxing weekend!

Best,

Adrianne

Altar Servers Sign-up & Training Grades 3-5:  All young men and women, Grades 3 through 5 are invited to become an altar server.  Servers should be mature enough to understand their responsibilities, and to carry them out well and with appropriate reverence.  They should have already received First Holy Communion, and usually receive the Eucharist whenever they participate in the liturgy.  Altar Servers assist the priest, lead the Opening and Closing Processions, assist with the Ritual Binder, and prepare the vessels and altar at School and weekend Masses.  Servers are also needed at funerals and weddings.  The role of server is integral to the normal celebration of the Mass.  Servers are prepared for this ministry through initial training and on-going formation offered in the parish.  Training will take place on Monday, November 15 at 3:30 pm, and on Saturday, November 20 at 9:30 am in the Church.  Only one session is required, and at least one parent must attend.  Please register as a server at https://tinyurl.com/OLGCaltarserver and sign up for a training session at www.signupgenius.com/go/30E044EA8A72EA7FC1-altar. The club will meet on the following dates: Friday, 11/19, 12/17, 1/7, 2/4, 3/4, 4/1, 4/29, 5/6, and Tuesday 5/17, Diocese of Arlington BoB Competition Day.
