A K-8 Blue Ribbon School in Vienna, VA

Be who you are and be that well

Welcome to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School which has a long standing reputation for academic excellence and a caring environment which facilitates learning and spiritual, social, emotional and physical growth.

Dear OLGC Community,

Thank you for continuing to partner with us around your child(ren)'s faith-filled education here at Our Lady of Good Counsel School.  We appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedules to conference with our teachers about your child's unique path, so we can work collaboratively to help them on their journey.  We hope you found your conference time informative and helpful.  Please don't hesitate to reach out to your teachers or administrators should you have any further questions or concerns.

If you have not already signed up for the Thanksgiving Dinner Basket Drive I ask that you consider whether you or your family are able to participate.  This is a long-standing, lovely tradition here at OLGC, where we work together to provide a Thanksgiving Dinner to so many families in need in our local area.  We are blessed in numerous ways, and this is a great opportunity for us to work together to help others.  If you cannot make a contribution as an individual family, please consider working with other families or groups to support the cause.  It brings so much joy to all involved in this outreach project, and is a great way to help our children learn to give to others.

November is also a wonderful time to express our Thanksgiving and appreciation for many.  Thank you to our PTO for organizing the Aviat Award process again this year.  Please take a moment to nominate a teacher or two for this beautiful award in memory of a former teacher, Miss Elizabeth White, if you have not already done so using this link.

Just a reminder that we have an 11:15 dismissal for preschoolers and an 11:30 dismissal tomorrow for students in Grades K - 8 to allow more time for our parent-teacher conferences.  Thank you to the PTO for their generosity and kindness in providing lunch for the teachers today and tomorrow!

Finally, please spread the word about our Open House this Sunday from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm for prospective new students.  We love to see OLGC continue to grow!

Have a wonderful rest of your week and weekend.

Adrianne Jewett, Principal

Altar Servers Sign-up & Training Grades 3-5:  All young men and women, Grades 3 through 5 are invited to become an altar server.  Servers should be mature enough to understand their responsibilities, and to carry them out well and with appropriate reverence.  They should have already received First Holy Communion, and usually receive the Eucharist whenever they participate in the liturgy.  Altar Servers assist the priest, lead the Opening and Closing Processions, assist with the Ritual Binder, and prepare the vessels and altar at School and weekend Masses.  Servers are also needed at funerals and weddings.  The role of server is integral to the normal celebration of the Mass.  Servers are prepared for this ministry through initial training and on-going formation offered in the parish.  Training will take place on Monday, November 15 at 3:30 pm, and on Saturday, November 20 at 9:30 am in the Church.  Only one session is required, and at least one parent must attend.  Please register as a server at https://tinyurl.com/OLGCaltarserver and sign up for a training session at www.signupgenius.com/go/30E044EA8A72EA7FC1-altar.
