Wildcat Weekly 2/28/19

At Mass yesterday, Father Dolan spoke about trying to find God's joy in the simple, everyday things. This past weekend OLGC hosted its annual February Frenzy House League Basketball Tournament. What a wonderful tradition, filled with plenty of basketball competition but it is a joy to see so many smiling students and families throughout the fun-filled weekend. Congratulations to the girls' champion team Holy Hoopers and the boys' champion team Attacking French Fries. More importantly, congratulations to everyone who played throughout the season. There was wonderful camaraderie among teammates and classmates on other teams, plenty of sportsmanship and cheering for everyone, along with a ton of wonderful food. Many memories were created this past weekend. I love events like these that make us so proud to be here at OLGC! Thank you to all who made this event such a success: Commissioners Mike Francese and Eric Andres, the referees, the coaches, players, parents who worked the concession stand, and everyone who came out to support the teams! What a joyful weekend for the whole OLGC community!

It is hard to believe that the 2nd trimester ends next Friday, March 8th already. Just a reminder that we will celebrate International Day that morning with an 11:30 dismissal for students. ECAP will remain open until 3pm that afternoon. We hope you enjoy the long weekend as there is no school on March 11th for a Professional Development Day.

Have a wonderful rest of your week, here's hoping that spring time weather comes our way soon!

Lenten Ice Cream "Sacrifice" in support of International Day Community Service: Students for International Day on March 8th will be learning more about national parks around the world and our own local national park, Wolf Trap. They will connect their understanding to Pope Francis' encyclical Laudato Si: On Care for Our Common Home. To bring the global truly local, the OLGC Student Council will be donating a tree to the Town of Vienna Parks and Recreation Department in the school's name. To fund this donation, we are asking students to continue to bring in money for ice cream on Tuesdays during Lent, however they will have the option to put that money in a container marked for donating rather than buy ice cream. Students are welcome to bring money both to donate and to purchase ice cream. We will begin collecting donations next Tuesday, March 5th (Mardi Gras) and continue through Lent. This is purely voluntary.

International Day Parade! International Day is on Friday, March 8th and we need student participants and parent volunteers to make the day a success. Students can sign up to walk in the parade in their chosen country's costume and/or carrying that nation's flag. Parents, please consider volunteering on Thursday, March 7th after carpool to decorate the gym, and on the morning of Friday, March 8th to help dress students in costume and line up the parade. To volunteer for International Day:

Looking for Digital Cameras: Middle School students have the opportunity to learn about the art of photography. We hope to have a point and shoot digital camera for each student to use for a photography class. If you have an old point and shoot camera with an SD card, please consider donating it for our class. We are also accepting donations of old SD cards. Questions, contact Mrs. Williamson (
