Thank you all for your patience and flexibility with all of the winter weather schedule changes. As always, we continue to do the very best we can to keep our children and staff safe throughout the winter months. Please know that these decisions are never easy and we try to minimize the schedule impacts on their education.
Regardless of prior experiences or adjustments, moving forward, the entire OLGC campus (school and parish) will follow the Diocesan policy. We will follow Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) regarding weather- related announcements. Fairfax County Public Schools makes decisions based on a variety of factors after they review information from emergency management and state highway administrators about road conditions and FCPS school personnel go out and inspect the conditions of roads, sidewalks, buildings, parking lots and bus lanes. While not everything FCPS faces applies to us directly, such as buses, we do have many families who do walk to school and many of our faculty do not live in the Vienna area. They encounter travel issues which those in the vicinity of our school may not face.
OLGC School and Parish will consistently follow the FCPS decision on inclement weather which eliminates the need for parents, staff, and parishioners to wait for a specific decision from the OLGC. The decision to always follow FCPS was given serious consideration by the OLGC School and Parish administration, including the review of past decisions and experiences.
Please note that on days when Fairfax County is not in session and inclement weather occurs, the OLGC School and Parish administration, in conjunction with our neighboring Catholic schools, will make the decision on whether to open school. In those cases, you will be notified by email and an announcement will be posted on our website. Since FCPS is closed tomorrow, January 25, IF we encounter inclement weather tomorrow morning, then OLGC will make the decision. As always, we appreciate your understanding and support, and please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
We celebrated the feast of St. Francis de Sales today. Thank you to all who joined us for Mass and the reception. Let's try to remember to live by his example, trying to make people joyful and confident, as we all strive to become closer to God.
We look forward to celebrating Catholic Schools Week beginning with our school Open House this Sunday and a week of fun-filled activities. Please refer to the schedule sent out last week for the out of uniform days and fun events.
