Wildcat Weekly 1/10/19

We are so excited to be back into the rhythm and routines of our school year and look forward to a busy, fun-filled month. Our virtue for this month is Gratitude and one of the things that I am most grateful for is the sense of community we have here at OLGC. We support one another in common goals and beliefs.

One of those common goals is the utmost safety and security of all of your students while on our campus. To attain that goal, I am pleading for your help in following our carpool procedures each and every day. I am grateful for the many who follow these rules, but unfortunately we continue to have parents who do not follow our procedures. We have had several near misses of children being struck by vehicles lately. That is not acceptable. Please know that these procedures might be less convenient for you at times, but they are vital to protecting your children. We must have your cooperation and follow through with the procedures we have in place. I have attached our carpool procedures to this email. Carpool Procedures I ask that you and others who drive your children review these procedures so that all are properly informed.

Please remember all parents must drop off students in K – 8 in the morning by entering through the rear Wolftrap Rd entrance and dropping off on the gym side of the building. Only those families with children in Preschool and the auction winners should be entering through Niblick Drive and dropping off their K – 8 students at the cones near the front of the school and looping back to drop off at Preschool. Anyone who needs to park must go through the normal carpool line and park in the upper lot. We cannot allow parents to park where the Preschool drops off in the morning as it is not safe for the children.

In the afternoon please remember that everyone must go through the carpool line with the exception of the two families who have purchased the carpool privileges at last year's auction. No one should be parking in the upper parking lot, at St. Joseph's center or in front of our building. Again, we have had several near misses lately and we cannot risk the safety of your children. In the afternoon we encourage Kindergarten parents to get here early and enter into the first two lines of cars when possible to make it easier for the younger students. If you have a preschool student and an older child, you must follow the procedures to allow your older child to walk over to preschool before dismissal. If you arrive early and must pick up your child from ECAP, please enter the carpool line and we will help get your child from ECAP to your car quickly.

If you have any specific questions or concerns, please let me know and we will try to work something out with you. We are here to work in partnership with you to accomplish the same goals, to keep our children safe and to get everyone through carpool as quickly as possible. We must insist on your cooperation and will be asking staff members to help me better enforce these rules immediately, so please let your carpool drivers know.

On Friday January 18th is the March for Life in Washington, D.C. and our 7th and 8th graders will be attending our special Mass or Life at 11:00 am in the church. If you wish to participate in the activities of the day to promote sanctity of life, you may choose to do so. Please report your child as "absent" to their homeroom teacher and notify the attendance line/email box. Any student who accompanies their parents to the March for Life that day will not be counted as absent. Notification will simply help us to know where the children are on that day.

We will celebrate Catholic Schools Week during the last week of January. Details will be sent out on Monday so please stay tuned!

Have a wonderful weekend!
