PTO Chatter 2/28/19

Dear OLGC Families,

I hope you all survived February Frenzy! Congratulations to all our players and special thanks to all our commissioners and coaches, to those who organized the 5th and 4th grade auction projects, to everyone who helped with concessions and t-shirt sales, and to everyone who came out to cheer on our Wildcats.

Sadly, we needed to cancel this year's Talent Show. I know there are some talented Wildcats who are disappointed, but next year the Talent Show will be back for you. Thanks to Sarah Kodrowski and Babs Fernandez for all their hard work in organizing.

March will bring us Lent, and along with prayer, fasting, and alms giving, Lent will bring us Fish Frys. The Fish Fry is a wonderful OLGC community event with great opportunities for food, fellowship, and service. This year pre-school through 5th grade families will provide homemade desserts to the Fish Fry. Please sign up here : There are many opportunities to work at the Fish Fry. You can sign up here:

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Members of the PTO Board look forward to meeting with our Preschool families at a coffee after drop off on Friday, March 15th in DeSales Hall.

New 2019 OLGC House League Basketball Tournament Championship! From Feb 22nd to the 25th, we held the annual OLGC House League Basketball Tournament called "February Frenzy". The House League -- which just completed its 42nd season -- brings together boys and girls in fourth and fifth grades who attend school or CCF at OLGC. The league is unique to OLGC: we know of no other Parish that offers a similar developmental, community-oriented basketball league.

In this year's tournament, the Attacking French Fries won the boys' division championship, overcoming a large early deficit to defeat the Golden Goats in the finals 38-28. In the girls' division, the Holy Hoopers played tenacious defense to hold off the God Squad to win the championship game 10-6. Congratulations to our winners!

The tournament featured a total of 21 games played from Friday through Monday, and would not have been a success without the dedication of an army of volunteers. We are grateful to all of them, especially those who ran our concession stand to provide food (and candy and ice cream!) to sustain our players and their families, those who designed and sold shirts to commemorate the event, our referees and referee coordinators, and our many coaches who worked with their players all season. A BIG THANK YOU goes to House League Commissioners Mike Francese and Eric Andres for their dedication and love of the program.

We also congratulate Brooke D.and Peter F. who won the Salesian Virtues Sportsmanship Award! It is presented to a fifth-grade boy and girl player who best exemplifies some or all of these Salesian Virtues during the House League Season:

• Endures Patiently to others' little acts of selfishness and unfairness
• See's the Bright Side even amid shortcomings and limitations
• Show Good Humor when others may be curt
• Puts on a Good Face when someone turns you down
• Be Appreciative of others kindness and good intentions
• Speak Gently and Show Courtesy- when answering to others

The Knights of Columbus awarded the following winners their Free Throw Shooting Contest certificates, Maddy A., Jack D., Olivia A., Cooper F., Eleanor A., Dylan S., Mary C., Matt M., and Ginny M. All of our winners have qualified for the state tournament in Richmond on March 9th. We wish them the best of luck!
