PTO Chatter 1/31/19

As I write this on Tuesday evening, Tommy's plan of checking the FCPS homepage every five minutes has finally paid off and we are all looking forward to tomorrow's snow day. I hope you and your families had a relaxing day off.

Please join us Friday for our second Family Bingo Night. Doors will open and food will be available starting at 6:15. Our first Bingo game will be start at 7:00 PM. Regular Bingo is $5, special Bingo is $5, and door prize drawing tickets are $5. Pizzas are $10 each or $2 a slice, and snacks and drinks are $1 each. You can pay in advance through Faith Direct until 11:59 PM Thursday. If you don't want to pay in advance, please RSVP here so we can estimate what food we need. We also need several adult and middle school volunteers or we can't have the event, so please sign up here Finally, if Fairfax County schools close Friday or close early Friday, we will refund any advance payments and hope to reschedule.

Please put our next meeting—February 12th—on your calendar. We'll have faculty from O'Connell and Paul VI, and we're hoping for a great turn out.




PTO Meeting: Please join us in DeSales Hall on Tuesday February 12th for our next PTO meeting in conjunction with the Middle School Science Fair. We have a social beginning at 6:30, a brief meeting at 7 PM, and then hear from science faculty at O'Connell and Paul VI high schools about preparing students for high school science and beyond.

New Vacation Bible School - Save the Date and Help Needed! Good News! The Holy Spirit has provided a Coordinator for VBS for us this summer! Terry Gaffney, one of our parishioners and CCF catechists, will be leading the efforts for VBS. He is currently drawing together a team of volunteers to run VBS this summer. The February 1st donation deadline for Auction Donations has come and gone, but it is not too late! If you have something you would like to donate, please get that to us as soon as possible. Seeking RCIA Sponsors - Inquire Today! Our Rite of Christian Initiations for Adults (RCIA) is currently seeking sponsors to journey with those who are preparing for baptism and full communion with the Catholic Church. RCIA meets on Wednesday nights from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm and partakes in prayer, faith sharing, and exploration of the Catholic Faith. It is a beautiful experience to journey with someone as they prepare to receive the sacraments! 3rd/4th grade girls and boys – OLGC Volleyball registration OPEN Click here to register your 3rd/4th grade daughter/son for the OLGC House League co-ed Volleyball by March 1, 2019. Coaches Needed --- We will also need volunteers to coach the teams. For first-time coaches or those who want a refresher on volleyball to coach our girls/boys, we plan on having a clinic to share knowledge. Please contact Chris Reyes if you are interested in coaching a team. We also accept high school student coaches who would be paired with adult volunteers who have completed the required background check and VIRTUS training session.

OLGC Open Mic Night, Saturday, February 2, from 7 pm until 10 pm in DeSales Hall. Whether the ground hog sees his shadow or not, the OLGC Open Mic Night goes on. Come and perform or just sit back, relax, and listen. Refreshments will be served.

New Celebrating Married Life - Calling all Married Couples! Join us at the 5 pm Mass on Saturday, February 16th as the Church celebrates World Marriage Day in February! Jesus, Church, and Me: Finding True North - MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR LIVE JESUS! 2019 Join us on Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM for the 16th Annual Live Jesus! event, a Lenten morning of spiritual reflection at St. John Neumann. Intelligent Lives - Film Screening – 2/20 at 7pm. Film Screening of "Intelligent Lives" - Bishop O'Connell High School is happy to host a FREE viewing of Dan Habib's new film, INTELLIGENT LIVES. The 70-minute film will be shown in the Bishop O'Connell auditorium, located at 6600 Little Falls Road in Arlington, and will be followed by a panel discussion.

BioEthics Seminars for Adults – Called to Happiness New Sister Terese at John Paul the Great Catholic High School will be hosting a 6-session overview of the course "Called to Happiness" (the second course in the JP Bioethics Curriculum). Join us for a facilitated discussion focused on suicide prevention: 2/21 at 7pm in Desales for "A Conversation about Suicide: Warning Signs and Common Misconceptions" facilitated by Ms. Jessica Zappia, Bilingual Clinical Mental Health Counselor with Catholic Charities Diocese of Arlington. Join OLGC for a brief discussion and facilitated conversation on suicide. Whatever your experience with or knowledge of suicide, all are welcome! With this gathering, we hope to raise awareness about suicide, its impact and prevention. We will also address grief and the healing process after suicide for all ages. The Women of OLGC's Pro-Life Committee is sponsoring this event and will provide light refreshments. Please invite your friends, family, and co-workers to join us to discuss this important topic.
