Our preschool classrooms are located in the lower level of DeSales Hall. This area consists of five large classrooms, restrooms, and a large lobby area. It offers a private entrance, plenty of indoor space to move and play and a dedicated outdoor playground. The adjacent parking lot allows for convenient and safe drop-off and pick-up.

The Preschool is a 5 Day Program.  Hours are as follows:

Full Day Program - 8 am-2:45pm

Mid Day Program - 8am - 11:45 am

Early Release Days Preschool dismisses at 11:15 am. See School Calendar.

Morning drop off begins at 7:45 am.

No admittance after 8:10 am. 

Snacks - Morning snack is provided daily. A snack list will be posted outside the classroom. Juice and water will be offered.

Lunch - Lunch is provided daily by Schoolhouse Grill. Parents create an account on the Schoolhouse Grill website and are required to select lunches for the month by a specified date. A hot and cold lunch option will be available each day.  Milk can be purchased for the year, otherwise water is provided. No outside food or drink is allowed. 

Allergies - Accommodations will be made for students with documented food allergies. Parents will be contacted concerning these accommodations.

The Preschool uniform is available through Lands End and Flynn & O’Hara. The summer uniform consists of navy shorts and a light blue OLGC t-shirt,  and the winter uniform is the light blue OLGC t-shirt, navy sweatpants and a navy sweatshirt or fleece.  The OLGC Elementary School gym uniform is also allowed if properly fitted for the preschooler.

It is imperative that the uniforms fit appropriately so that the child can successfully manage his/her own clothes to use the bathroom and independently manage their school day. For safety reasons please make sure that your child’s uniform does not hang too low or too loose as this may prove hazardous during playground play and we do not want anyone to be injured.

Shoes - Close-toe, rubber soled shoes, preferably Velcro closure, will ensure that students will be able to run, jump and play comfortably.

Out of Uniform Days - Students should dress in clothes that are comfortable and suitable for active play and rest. Students should wear clothing which they can manage independently and successfully when using the restroom.

Backpacks -  Students will need to bring a standard sized backpack to school on Fridays.  The backpack must be large enough to hold school work and a rollee pollee.

Rest Time

• VA Licensing requires a minimum rest time of 60 minutes each day.
• Students will be issued rest mats and rollee pollees.
• Students who fall asleep during rest will be allowed to sleep for 1 hour.
• Students who remain awake after the initial 30 minutes will remain in the classroom for a quiet activity.
• Rollee Pollees will be sent home at the end of the school week to be washed and returned the next school day.

Bathroom Protocol

• Bathroom breaks are structured into the daily schedule and as requested by the student.
• Boys bathrooms have urinals.  Please introduce your son on the use of urinals prior to the start of school.
• Flushable wet wipes are allowed.  Wipes must be supplied by the parents and labeled accordingly.
• OLGC will have extra change of uniforms available for students.  If your student is sent home in a “spare” set, please wash and return all pieces the next school day.  Underpants need to be parent provided and two spare pairs need to be labeled and kept at school as well as two spare face masks.
• Parents will be contacted and an action plan will be decided upon if their child has frequent accidents.
• Parents will be contacted to pick up child if there is a bowel movement accident.

• School starts promptly at 8:10 am.
• Due to staffing requirements, children will not be admitted after 8:10 am.
• Absences need to be reported prior to 7:30 am. by emailing preschool@olgcschool.org along with the child’s teacher and assistant teacher.
• Please inform your student’s teacher of scheduled absences.
• Failure to inform us regarding a student’s absence will result in a phone call from the school.

• Students with a fever of 100 or more will not be permitted to attend class.
• Students must be fever free without medication for 48 hours before returning to class.
• Students with recurrent vomiting or diarrhea will not be permitted to attend class.
• Students must be symptom free of vomiting or diarrhea for 48 hours before returning to class.
• Students with communicable diseases will not be permitted to attend class.
• Please inform school of any diagnosed communicable diseases.
• Students must be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to class.
• If it is deemed necessary to send a child home due to illness, parents will be notified and expected to make arrangements for the child to be picked up within 30 minutes.

• You will be receiving a packet of school forms in the mail which need to be completed in their entirety prior to the start of school.
• Students who require Epi-pens must have all forms and doctors orders submitted along with a current Epi-pen prior to the first day of school.
