Degrees

B.S. in Art from James Madison University with a dual certification in Middle School Education and Art Education, Masters of Interdisciplinary Studies of the Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University

Professional Background

I taught core curriculum in 4th and 5th grade for 5 years before switching to Art and AVID at Lake Braddock. I was there for two years before the birth of my daughter and stopped teaching to be fully present for my new family. Before the birth of my second child, I stepped in as the Youth Ministry Director here at OLGC. It was the perfect profession to still interact with an age that I love and still have a family of young children because my husband could be home when I was with the teens in off school hours. I served in this role for 9 years before turning the program over to Derek Rogers. I have served as a Catechist off and on here at OLGC, most recently for my daughter's 8th grade class. For the last six years I also created and Art Program, CreARTive, and taught an after school art class through my children's elementary school.

Faith in Action

My faith is first and foremost in everything I do. I often say (and always know) that "my life is lived by divine intervention". Whether it's meeting my husband to the MANY moving pieces of Junior High Work Camp fitting perfectly together in the 11th hour, it is crystal clear to me that I am not in charge, and thank GOD I am not! I know that I have been blessed many times over and try to use my gifts to glorify the Father that gave them to me. Music enhances the experience of mass for me and I joyfully serve as a cantor at OLGC. My art is also a reflection of my faith and my favorite and most inspired pieces are all forms of a visual prayer process. Out of all the ways my faith is put in action, the most important is passing it on to my children. Praying with my 5 and walking with them as they grow in faith is one of my greatest joys. I am beyond excited to be back in the classroom full time, and cannot even express how privileged I feel to be part of the faith formation of so many more young people!

Favorite Teaching Moment

The moments when you don't even know what you do are making a lifelong difference! I have a few students who have found me years later to tell me how a little thing I said or did made a lasting impact on them and helped shape their future. We all have the chance to do this daily!

Favorite Food

I am a huge foodie and love trying new things. The only thing that I will most always default to is a dessert option with dark chocolate!

Favorite Activity Outside of School

Being creative!
