Professional Background

When I graduated from college, I knew I wanted to work on Wall Street like my Dad did. I began working in the International Department of Shearson Lehman Brothers, where I worked with foreign currency, bonds, and stocks, and with our international branches. I loved the excitement of it, but realized I wanted to help people on a different level. I obtained my master's in education and moved to Northern Virginia where I already had family and married my husband, Kevin. I started working for Strayer University in institutional planning, research, & statistics. After my son Zack was born, I began teaching at Vienna Baptist Children's Center. When Zack was an OLGC kindergartener, I accepted the position of Kindergarten Aide for the following fall. Since then, I have taught Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grades, and am beginning my 3rd year in the OLGC Library.

Faith in Action

As our school library teacher, I use my faith as a way to bring positive messages to our students through books. Reading together and discussing a book broadens our students’ thinking beyond what they have experienced. A good book can model good morals, understanding, and empathy for others. Books can be a window to the past, and to what students are experiencing now. We discuss what we would do in different situations, and what we are called to do. Many times students will tie this into lessons they have learned at our school Mass or in religion class. I love discussing books with our students, because I learn something new every day through the eyes of our children!

Favorite Teaching Moment

When I was a 2nd Grade teacher, I loved religion class. Being a part of such a big year in the lives of our children was a wonderful privilege. I learned so much from class discussions about love and faith from my kids. The biggest thrill for me was being able to serve the Eucharist to one of my students at their first school Mass after receiving their First Holy Communion. The faith, pride and joy they exhibited was a truly blessed experience! Although I am not a 2nd Grade teacher anymore, being a Eucharistic Minister still allows me to take part in this very special experience. As our 2nd Graders begin to make this very special sacrament each spring, I am thrilled to be a part of their growth in our Church, and see their elated smiles!

Favorite Food

Caesar salad, popcorn, & fried chicken (not necessarily together!).

Favorite Activity Outside of School

Outside of school, I love to spend time with my family and friends. I watch my son run Cross Country, and we love to go to baseball games as a family. I also like to knit, garden, and read books.

Fun Fact About Me

I have a minor in Canadian Studies and played intramural broomball in college.
