Wildcat Weekly 11/9

Byline: From: Mrs. Jewett, Principal

Dear Parents,

One of the many ways we embody our virtue of the month, holiness, is by showing our love for one another through our actions. These loving actions can be as simple as seasoned altar servers showing new 4th graders how to properly serve during Mass to more grand gestures such as sharing a meal with those less fortunate at Thanksgiving. This week we collected and donated over 80 pounds of candy to the military and sent $160 to Children's National Medical Center. My pride in our students continues to grow. I feel blessed to be a leader of our OLGC School community.

Next week we will have Prayer Partners working together during gym classes in a basketball shooting competition called the Turkey Shoot. The "Top Turkey" will be crowned on Tuesday November 21st at 1:30 during a school-wide competition. Students may dress in spirit attire that day to celebrate the completion of our Share a Meal project. If you or your family have not had the opportunity to contribute to our Share a Meal program for those at Thanksgiving, or would prefer to make a monetary contribution which will go towards the purchase of food for the meals, please send in your contribution by November 17. Parents, feel free to join us in the gym on Tuesday the 21st as we find out who will be the "Top Turkey."

There will be a Principal’s Coffee on Tuesday, November 14 at 8:05 am in the Counsel Room. Parents of children with allergies are invited to attend.

We appreciate your continued help and support in spreading the good news about OLGC with your neighbors, friends, and family members and encouraging them to attend our Open House this Sunday, November 12. Our students and their families are the best advertisement of our school. We thank you for your commitment to Catholic Education and for choosing OLGC School!

I hope your parent-teacher conferences were helpful and informative. I hope you enjoy the rest of this beautiful fall week and look forward to seeing many of your smiling faces at our Open House on Sunday.

Best Wishes,

Adrianne Jewett, Principal

OLGC Lego Robotics Team Registration: OLGC is creating a Lego Robotics Team comprised of 2nd through 4th graders. The team will develop science, technology, engineering and mathematics skills through the use of motorized Lego robotics. Meetings will be held after school once per week for one hour. The students will be given a challenge and will work together to build a Lego machine to solve the problem. The OLGC team will compete against local clubs in building and problem solving challenges. No previous experience is necessary. All Legos, motorized components and iPads for controlling the robots will be provided by the team. The cost per team member will be low to zero depending on the number of students who sign up and the ability to attract a corporate sponsor. The team will be coached by Tom Flanigan and managed by Jeff Zures. Please email if your child is interested in joining the team. The registration deadline is November 15th. Additional information about the FIRST Lego League can be found at: Lego League Info.

Thanksgiving Donation Program: OLGC’s donations to Clearview Elementary School at Thanksgiving provide much needed support and helps these families to restore faith in their neighbors - with a delicious dinner to boot! There are 3 ways to help:

  1. Sponsor a Family - OLGC will distribute a box for you and your family to decorate and then fill with an entire Thanksgiving meal. This is a wonderful opportunity to, not only share a meal, but also share your family’s Thanksgiving traditions with another family.
  2. Sponsor a Family with Another OLGC Family - Please put both names on the sign-up genius. This is a great way to divide and conquer!
  3. Donation - Families may also chose to support the Thanksgiving Dinner drive through a monetary donation. We understand that it is a very busy time of year and shopping may not fit into your schedule. Your donation will be used to create a box or purchase a gift card.

To sign up to donate a Thanksgiving dinner, go to:

Please contact Bridgette Jreige to purchase Walmart gift cards through Divine Dollars. She has ordered extra $25 gift cards that she can pass along at carpool or they will be available for purchase at parent teacher conferences. Additionally, if you choose to sponsor a family or share a family, we encourage you to consider purchasing additional pantry fillers, such as flour, sugar, rice and dried beans to help them through more than just one night.
